“Participating in the PEFMED project was a great opportunity for us to quantify the environmental impact of our activity”
Video interview with Agnes Jaquot, Global Environmental Communication Director of Eaux de Thonon
The story of the mineral waters of Thonon goes all the way back to the antiquities to the ancient romans. For the mineral water company Thonon, it dates back to 1964, so it’s a little over 50 years old. It joined the Cristaline Group in 1990s that developed it as a national brand.
“We work constantly to reduce our plastic materials and the weight of our packaging” declares Agnes Jaquot, global environmental communication director of the company “for example the weight of our plastic bottles has been halved during the last 25 years, reduced from approximately 45 grams to a weight of barely over 20 grams”.
Following the results of PEFMED project, Eaux de Thonon instituted a program to even more reduce the weight of their plastic, focusing on the secondary packaging. The company then pursued an alternative way of delivering the product, preferring road-rail transport to reduce the impact and also created a circular economy system to collect used bottles in the supermarkets and recycle them to produce new PET.
